"Without Gorilla" line etch, aquatint, multiplate monoprint
Daniel Quinn's Ishmael, as well as The Story of B and My Ishmael, are amazing books that have definitely given me (and everyone else in the growing community of his readers) a different way of thinking about the state of the world. I was thinking about everything that led up to me discovering Quinn and the people I've had the pleasure of being acquainted with because of it, and that's where this print came from. Thanks to Jarad for recommending Ishmael, to Aaron for all of our incredible conversations, and to Dan (and AHTD) for music that's been on in the background of many cathartic monoprinting sessions. To anyone here who hasn't-read Ishmael!
"Rabo Karabekian Reflects on Abstract Expressionism" line etch, aquatint, monoprint
This print was inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's book Bluebeard. The figure is the main character, Rabo Karabekian, and the background is what one of his paintings might look like (his works were solid color backgrounds with pieces of colored tape). It's ironic that Vonnegut passed away shortly after I started working on this-now it's kind of like my little tribute to him. I love the way he always made such powerful statements in a really simple way-like this one.
